America’s most wanted…cars

2018 09 07 Blog Using Key To Enter Car

No one wants to walk out to their car, keys in hand, only to find it isn’t where they left it. Did you park it down the street? Did your wife run to the grocery and forget to mention it? After running through all the scenarios in your brain, you may realize that yes, it was, in fact, stolen.

The list of most-stolen vehicles from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) explains what cars are regular targets for criminals. The list is topped with some older, pre-smart key models that are lacking newer technology. We don’t want you to deal with that stomach-turning moment of not knowing where your car is, so the more you know, the better you can avoid it.

And without further ado, here are the most commonly stolen vehicles to keep an extra close eye on:

1. 1997 Honda Accord

2. 1998 Honda Civic

3. 2006 Ford Pickup

4. 2004 Chevrolet Pickup

5. 2016 Toyota Camry

6. 2015 Nissan Altima

7. 2001 Dodge Pickup

8. 2015 Toyota Corolla

9. 2008 Chevrolet Impala

10. 2000 Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee

How to protect your car

If your vehicle made the list, you should consider investing in an anti-theft device for some added protection. And if you're regularly hearing about car thefts in your area, that anti-theft device could really be worth it and save you the hassle of dealing with a stolen car.

Some anti-theft devices to look into are:

  • a kill switch
  • a tracking device
  • or a simple steering wheel lock

An anti-theft device can help deter criminals from stealing your car. Even something as simple as the steering wheel lock will signal to a criminal immediately that you’ve taken extra steps to protect your vehicle. They may realize it is more work than it is worth to try to steal your ride.

And if you do install an anti-theft device, you may even qualify for an anti-theft discount with your car insurance company, so be sure to ask. A safer car and saving money? That’s a win-win in our book.
