For the foodies: The Splendid Table

This is NPR’s most delectable discussion. From culinary topics to cultural cuisine, award-winning host Lynne Rossetto Kasper and her guests celebrate all things appetizing. Each week, these passionate foodies get together to delight listeners with their excitement, tasteful insights and even a little kitchen gardening. Drive time just went from mind numbing to mouth-watering.

For the sports fans: Hang Up and Listen

Slate Magazine’s witty, honest sports podcast is a slam-dunk in our book. Hosts take on the week’s sports and talk about them in a smart yet unconventional manner. While this podcast isn’t overly analytical, that doesn’t mean it isn’t thoughtful. Infusing everything from culture to comedy, these guys tackle a wide variety of sports topics from unexpected angles. We think that’s a commuting win.

For the curious: TED Radio Hour

What is beauty? Can we predict the future? Does the earth need humans? The stage with all the answers comes to the radio as NPR’s TED Radio Hour. With 150 free options to download on iTunes, it’s the perfect way to fuel your ride with knowledge, inspiration and fascination.

For the politicos: Off Message

Whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or even undecided, Off Message is an excellent podcast dedicated to discussing important topics with politicians from wing to wing. Host Glen Thrush has sat down with everyone from Ted Cruz to Hillary Clinton to get intimate with all the political power players. Use traffic time to tune in to Off Message’s refreshingly informative (and civil) interviews.

For the pop culture lovers: Pop Culture Happy Hour

Listen in on a juicy chat about books, celebs, movies, and you know everything else that is pop culture. From Game of Thrones to Queen Bee, the possibilities are endless. We also love Linda Holmes and her rowdy bunch of co-hosts. Buckle up for good humor and the best of pop culture.

For the Chicagoans: Curious City

OK Chicago, it’s your turn to take the wheel! Curious City is a podcast that lets you the viewer lead the conversation. Week to week, hosts pick the most popular questions about Chicago, do a little investigating, and report back via podcast. It’s a great way to really get to know your home city … on your way home.
