Let’s set a common scene. You’re in the car for a long trip. Maybe you’re heading to a national park, or going straight to the beach for a relaxing vacation. Every passenger along for the ride is begging for different music. You can’t please everyone, right? Well, maybe you can. Audiobooks are a great alternative for a long road trip. A good book can keep your passengers intrigued and entertained for hours and hours. Gone are the days of flipping through the radio channels constantly to find a good song.

We’ve put together a list of are some of our favorite audiobooks. Check them out at your local library through apps like Overdrive, start a subscription to Audible, or buy them online and you’ll be good to go for your next road trip.

1. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

What’s an audiobook list without including Harry Potter? While we all can agree the books and movies are incredible, the audiobook stands out for many fans as well. The narration is captivating and the audiobook version is a fun way to revisit the much-adored series.

2. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

The book, “A Wrinkle in Time,” has made a comeback with the recent movie. If you’re traveling with kids, this is a great audiobook to listen to for your family trip. It’s got magic, great villains, and strong characters to keep your kids happy and focused on the book for miles and miles.

3. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This whimsical tale has magic, a love story, and mystery all in one. The book is a page-turner, and the audiobook will keep you just as captivated. It will make a great listen for a bit of an older crowd. The miles of your road trip will melt away with this listen.

4. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

This true story is almost unbelievable. Unbroken tells the story of an American Air Force bomber in WW2. This soldier just happened to be an Olympian runner as well. He goes through quite the ordeal, which will leave you wanting more when the book ends. Unbroken is a longer listen for those who have a lengthier road trip planned this year.

5. The Innocent by David Baldacci

If you’re a fan of thrillers, this is the audiobook for you! The book focuses on Will Robie, a hitman, who has an uncharacteristic change of heart. If you need a suspenseful book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, check out The Innocent.

6. Yes Please! by Amy Pohler

Comedy lovers: we’ve got just the listen you’ve been looking for! Amy Pohler, the lovable Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation, has written an autobiography you can’t miss. It’s witty, funny, and everything you’d expect from Pohler. And since this is narrated by Pohler herself, it’ll be like she’s riding shotgun with you.

Plan to listen to an audiobook on your next road trip? Be sure to download the audiobook and have it ready to roll before you back out of your driveway. And if you’re listening on your phone, make sure you’ve got the technology in your car to keep with the book. You’ll want some kind of phone charger if you’re listening on it, as well as a hotspot if you’re listening online. We’d hate for your phone to die or the Wi-fi to disappear during the drive.
