Most of our content centers around travel. From quirky roadside attractions you won’t want to miss to must-have travel accessories for your dog, we’ve got you covered with road trip tips and advice.

However, we know not ALL of our readers are avid travelers, and that’s okay. So, homebodies near and far gather round for what you’ve been waiting for…staycation ideas galore.

Movie Marathon – If your favorite place to go is your couch, this one is for you. Just grab the biggest bowl you can find, fill it with popcorn, find your comfiest blankets and pillows, invite your favorite movie buddy for the weekend, and queue up the first of any of these binge-worthy movie series.

For the whole family:

  • Harry Potter
  • Night at the Museum
  • Madagascar
  • The Land Before Time

For the superhero fanatic:

  • X-Men
  • Avengers
  • Spiderman

For the horror movie lover:

  • Friday the 13th
  • The Ring
  • Nightmare on Elm Street

For the space admirer:

  • Star Wars
  • Star Trek

For the classic enthusiast:

  • Jaws
  • Back to the Future
  • James Bond
  • The Godfather

Escape Room – If you take staycation-ing super seriously, you might choose not to leave your house; but maybe your version of a staycation means simply staying in your home city. If that is more your style, an escape room is the way to go!

This enticing new activity means local companies have popped up in several towns across the U.S. Similar to finding our fave, Breakout Como in our hometown of Columbia, Missouri, you can do a quick Google search for “escape rooms near me” or “breakout rooms near me” to see what is close by.

Alternatively, board games like Escape Room: The Game and Exit Games exist to give you a similar experience from the comfort of your own home. So, even if you choose not to leave home, you can join forces with your bestie to see if you can escape in time!

Game Night – Board games and card games are an awesome way to catch up with friends and family or you can plan an at-home date night with your honey. There are collaborative games like Pandemic (might hit too close to home), The Crew, or The Captain is Dead. There are every-man-for-himself games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, or Exploding Kittens. There are even games with no real winner like Charades or puzzles. So, we can say with confidence, there’s something for everyone!

Camping – While your first thought when we say camping might be building a tent at a park, you can also build a top-notch pillow and blanket fort in your living room. Parents, this one is a family favorite. Grab pillows and blankets from all over your house, pile them up in the living room, and let the kids do all the “work”. Once you build the fort of their dreams, you can play a card game or watch a movie inside together!

Park Adventures – Local, state, or national parks are the way to Say’s heart. If you venture out of the house, you can try to spot some local flora or fauna! If you’re not a big explorer, pick one of the park’s shorter trails and just enjoy some fresh air before retreating to the comfort of home. Plus, you can always opt for a park with a playground or water feature for some variety!

Spa Day – This past year was beyond stressful, so we think we’re all a little overdue for a “Treat Yo’ Self” day. Book a full day at a local spa - complete with a massage, facial, manicure, AND pedicure. Or if you can convince your significant other to do a trade…you might just get a massage in return for making dinner!

Poolside Cookout – Fire up the grill and blow up the pool floaties! Pool owners, we envy you. All you must do is swing by the grocery store for some hotdogs, hamburgers, and buns; then you’re set. Invite your neighbors, friends, and family for a fun day in the sun…all without leaving home!

Remember, wherever this summer takes you, even if it’s just to your couch or backyard, we want to see your adventures! Share your photo with us on Facebook or Instagram with the #sayadventures. We can’t wait to see what you’re up to!
